Currently independent music artists do not have an outlet to share their music with fans effectively through social networks. Fans lack an internet resource to explore free music that is recommended by their friends and peers. Other music stakeholders such as music bloggers, DJs, producers, venues, and labels do not have a centralized website to search for music based on the tastes of music consumers, not mainstream media. A new website will be built on the success of Hulkshare.com, a music file-sharing destination for independent artists and fans developed by Mr. Brinkofski from his dorm room in December 2009. We will to solve these problems by creating a new website based on a social Web 2.0 model that allows fans and artists to interact on a deeper level.

We have built a social website that encourages artists to upload and share their music for free to increase their fanbase. Each song will be ranked based on page views, downloads, user ratings, and the volume of comments. Artists have an incentive to keep their music free because if they charge for a song it will lose the downloads component of its ranking. 5 artist tiers based on rankings will appeal to the competitive nature of not only hip-hop but music in general. A social networking system of profile pages will allow anyone to discover what their friends are listening to. The free-music promotional model has successfully been implemented by Hulkshare.com and many modern hip-hop artists can attribute their success to giving away music as mix-tapes rather than releasing albums. The website will allow any song to rise to the top of the rankings without the stifling influence of the mainstream media.
